Q
What cable should I use for the Garmin Zumo 550 or Zumo 660
connected to the StarCom Advance or Digital units?
The
CAB-66
is fine running into the "phone" port, but only allows mono sound, (but in both speakers),
from the
Zumo.
An alternative is the MIC-02,
which plugs between the StarCom1 "phone" port and the Zumo "MIC" port,
and the
MUS-04, which runs between the Zumo
"Audio Out" and on the StarCom1 Digital "Audio In" port and on the
StarCom1 Advance "MUSIC" port. This provides stereo
from the Zumo.
Q What cable do I need to hook up my Radar system?
In most cases, radar detectors use a CAB-35 or CAB-36 plugged into the
"AUX" port.
Q What about Wind Noise?
Wind noise should not be an issue, so if there is wind noise... check the following:
1) Mic sensitivity should be set to 80%
clockwise.
2) Volume should be set to about 25%.
3)
Speakers should be directly in line with the ear canal.
4) Microphone should be central to the
mouth, pushing onto the lips. (No Air Gap)
5)
If using a Boom Microphone, silver
line should face the mouth. (as this is mic input)
*We also find that the outer foam is not
necessary if the mic is correctly positioned and facing
the correct direction.*
**Putting an extra foam on
effectively reduces wind input, but pushes the mic
further away from the lips.**
Q StarCom1 Will Not Power Up...
Is good DC power connected?
Is The helmet speaker
installed...and connected to StarCom1?
Is the helmet connected to the
driver side of the StarCom1 unit?
The
StarCom1 Digital is the newest unit, advancing technology from
the Advance and Basic units.
The
REM-01 allows access to all Digital settings at the touch of your
fingertips.
The
CAB-66 is the "Zumo to StarCom1 Cable", giving music in
mono (but in both speakers), allowing good communication of
GPS instructions and phone connection via Bluetooth;
will also carry music from the Zumo's MP3.
The MUS-04 +
MIC-02 are 2 cables used as an alternative to
the
CAB-66 for the Zumo 550 and Zumo 660, giving true stereo sound for
music; however, the disadvantage is that the VOX on the
StarCom1 unit must be turned off, as mic can not mute music.
The
BTM-01 is a Bluetooth Module that will pair up with any of your
Bluetooth capable devices, not just your cell phone, but also GPS's and
music players.
Q Do they make an adapter to use my
StarCom1 headset on my Harley Davidson/Goldwing?
A Unfortunately, no... We do not have
adaptors between Goldwing/Harley systems and StarCom1 headsets.
This is because the mics on our StarCom1 headsets are electric and the Goldwing/Harley
microphones are
dynamic,
so they are not compatible.
However, we now have special headsets for riders of Goldwings and Harleys
who do not use the StarCom1 units.

A Great Review on StarCom1
http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-intercoms/starcom/
Subject:
Starcom1 Digital scenario and typical questions:
Q. I have an ST1300 and am interested in purchasing the Starcom1 product.
I am assuming that the Starcom1 Digital is the top of the line. Here's
what I need it to do. I have a full face helmet and my rider (pillion) has a 3/4 with shield.
I need the following functionality:
1. Listen to music through my IPod.
2. XM Satellite radio (haven't purchased this part yet). Can this be
shared with passenger?
3. My wife wants listen to her IPod independent from mine.
4. Rider to passenger intercom.
5. Rider to rider communications via a CB radio.
Will the StarCom1 Digital do both Rider to Rider and Rider to Passenger
with just one kit?
Which kit do I buy?
Where do most folks mount this unit on the ST?
Can I get one set of head phones for full face, SH-004, and one set of SH-006
for my rider's helmet?
Also, what is the digital remote, REM-01, used for?
Answer:
Not a problem! The StarCom1 really is about the best unit available!
No matter what helmets you have, we can usually fit a nice headset to it.
If you or your rider wears ear buds or ear protection, we offer headsets that have speakers and a place to plug in ear buds.
1. You can both listen to your own iPods, or just listen to
yours alone.
This also works the same as XM radio... she can listen to it with you.
3. Rider to passenger intercom works great!
4. You
can easily mount the StarCom1 in the tail or even in a tank bag, as it is
small.
5. CB
also works great, but we have had many issues with other manufacturer CB
radios. We only recommend the Midland 75-822, as our cable CAB-21 was
designed for this radio. This will allow bike to bike communications.
We also have a number of new radio kits available for bike to bike
communication.
6.
If
you order the Digital Kit U, then you can order any headsets you need, even
different types. The cost should be the same.
The Kit "A" contains
one helmet set and the Kit "B" contains 2. The Kit "U" does not come with
helmet sets, but can be purchased separately.
7. The
REM-01 is used so that you can control all functions of the StarCom1
remotely, just in case you put it under a seat and you would hate to have to
pull a seat each time an adjustment is made... But
if you are planning to put it in a tank bag, then you really won’t need
the REM-01.
"The StarCom1 system is, by far, the best
communication system available, giving quality technology at competitive
prices. There are cheaper systems out there, but will they give you
all the capabilities StarCom1 can? You'll also find more expensive
systems you can spend your money on, but why? This system gives you
the options of not only rider to pillion communication, but also bike to
bike, phone, GPS, radar, MP3/iPod... and they never stop the technology from
going forward and providing what our customers are looking for."
Installation Ideas
StarCom1 Advance and Digital units
are a great addition to any bike. It adds
music; Driver to passenger communication; It can interface
FRMS and CB radios; Radar detectors and GPS (Optional)
StarCom1 Units can easily be installed on any bike. It takes about
the same amount of room as a normal deck of playing cards. Just add a
switched 12 Volt DC source and plug in the connectors. It is that
simple.
StarCom1 Units can also be installed in a tank bag using
Powerlet. These connectors give you the ability to easily add
connectors in and on your tank bag.
Zumo Idea's
The
Garmin Zumo is a great addition. It can add Bluetooth to
StarCom1 unit without the need of a
StarCom1 Bluetooth module.
With the
Garmin Zumo 550 or 660, you can add XM radio (optional
XM subscription and an XM antenna
would be needed.) To add
Garmin Zumo to the StarCom1 Advance, you will need a
Starcom1 Navigation/Radar Interface
Cable (CAB-66)
or a Starcom1 Microphone Cable
for
Garmin Zumo™ (MIC-02)
and a
StarCom1 Music System Interface Cable
(MUS-04)
The difference is the CAB-66 will only allow mono music.
The MUS-04 will also work
with most all Garmin GPS units that have a 3.5mm audio output.
We
do recommend a
SanDisk 2 GB SD Memory Card.
With the 2GB disk you are able to add MP3 music and listen
though your
Garmin Zumo.
Bike To Bike Communication
Bike to bike communication
can easily be done with the use of any
Midland Radio
that we sell here.
All you need is a
StarCom1 Push-To-Talk Handle Bar Switch,
(PTT-03),
for the driver and a
Starcom1 Two-way Radio Interface Cable,(CAB-02), for the Midland Radio. You will, however, have to decide if you will
be using a CB band radio or a FRMS radio. This usually depends on who you
mostly ride with.
IPod
The IPod can easily
be installed on the
Handle bars using Ram Mounts giving easy access to changing channels
and music volume.
The IPod compatible cable is included with
every StarCom1 kit.
